The main shopping mall begins northern of the Zócalo.
The spain foundation Puebla was a kind of rival firm to the immediate western lain old indian Cholula, where one have to say, that the first clearly has won the competition - actually Cholula is from slightly importance. But for travellers it is a very good adress, because here one can see the biggest "invisible" pyramide of the world. At its heyday Cholula was full of indian temples, but the most supposed number of 365 is to refer into the kingdom of legends.
The catholic church was tangled with the "pagan" temples as it was well-tried; they were reconstructed or revised. For example the Gran Pirámide, by a base of 475 meters, Gran Piramide she was the biggest of Latinamerica, received a "hat" in shape of the church Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. By the times were used all its reserves by erosion and overgrow to the "foundations", so that christian temple seems to stay on a huge hill. Expositions- and restoreworks so are impedimented, that Nuestra Señora as far as she's got a monument. Only one part of the westfront is exposed; with a here beginning system of tunnels one can see more, but should use a place known leader. The also worthseeing Franziskanian-monastery San Gabriel, beside the Capílla Real, was build in the 16. century upon the ruins of former indiantemples.
Somewhat northern of Cholula, in Huejotzingo, one can inspect a Franziskanian-monastery, which in Mexico is almost entirely in case of age, draft, size and state. San Francisco, whose foundation stone was lain one decade after arrival of Cortés, is joining the sacrale thought of fortress; especially worthseeing is the altarcap, from the late 16th century, in the inner of the
armed church.
Less kilometers southwestern of Puebla is lain the 3.000-citizens-village Acatepec, famous in fact of its church San Francisco, whose appearance is offering the indian influenced baroque in its boldest and colorfullest style. Already amazing is the coexistence of two absolutely dissimilar belfries; the inner offers to the visitors a luxurious potpourri from stucco, gold and angelfaces.
Iztaccihuatl Quite exactly in the middle of Mexico City and Puebla raise the both volcanos Iztaccihuatl (5.286 meter) and Popocatépetl (5.452 meter). Both can be climbed, but one have to ensure a place knowing leadership; besides one have to consider, already the starting point, reachable with a motorcar, is lain on a height of just under 4000 meters Popocatepetl so that the rare air for not trained visitors can become a dangerous. Furthermore in the last years the volcano Popocatépetl is in increasing activity.
The 76 kilometers southern of Mexico City lain Cuernavaca once was serving as refuge to the wealthy and mighty people, which were wanted to escape from the urban rushes of Mexico City. But meanwhile the former cosy place is becoming a megacity itself, where is going lost many of its charme. But the city centre possesses many spanish atmosphere, as ever. Whoever is interested in history of Mexico, should take a visit to the mainplace, which is lain southern of the Palacio de Cortés. After his conquest of Aztecs-empire, Cortés has lost the trust of the spanish royal house. King Karl V. has revoked favor and power to him; so Cortés was urged, to retreat as "elder conqueror" - even to Cuernavaca. The residence, which he was build here, is throwing a typical light to his character - the Palacio is almost windowless, bulky and forced with pinnacles and tower; one can get the impress of an Middle Ages fortress.
